Sephora by OPI- Studs and Stillettos & Wet-n-Wild The Gold and the Beautiful

I had this really 'good' idea that turned out to be not so good. I thought, "lets do a gold glitter gradient over the top of a rich brown, that would be so pretty for fall"! Well in my head, it looked very different than what I ended up with.
I really liked Studs and Stilettos, it looked like a chocolate bar on my fingers. It covered nicely and almost had a cool brown tone. I don't use Sephora by OPI often because, for some reason they are more expensive then regular OPI, rarely go on sale, and do not have as good of color selection. I am really happy with this polish though, so maybe I'll try some more!

Then I went ahead and wrecked it! I don't really know why I say that because I got a ton of compliments on it; I think maybe I didn't like it because it wasn't what I expected it to look like? Well, I've had good luck with gradients in the past using Sinful Colors glitters either alone or over a base color. This glitter did not want to do that.
Wet-n-Wilds The Gold and the Beautiful is really sheer on its own but when I used it over SnS, it wanted to hide it, and be the star! The tips did end up more concentrated, but back near the cuticle, very little brown showed. The other thing that might have been an issue is SnS is a cool brown with subtle silver shimmer, and TGatB is a very warm almost bronze gold. It isn't terrible but even with no wear, I had to take it off in 2 days. Am I being crazy? Whats your opinion?

Orly- Birds of a Feather Collection- Fowl Play

Happy Monday Guys:-) I hope you all had a nice weekend. I spent mine out in the Finger Lakes with my family doing some wine tasting at the vinyards out there. We lucked out and had beautiful weather, up around 80 and sunny! It was the perfect break from the last few weeks at work.
Anyways... today I have Fowl Play, the only one that I initially grabbed from the Birds of a Feather Collection. I have since kicked myself, gone back and picked up Night Owl and Lucky Duck, but I haven't had a chance to swatch them yet! Night Owl is awesome, I've heard its very similar if not a dupe for OPI's Merry Midnight, but since I dont have that one and it's really hard to find, you'll have to take my word for it! Either way this is a gorgeous, redish purple jelly packed with glitter and flakies, that show up mostly orange with a flash of blue. Its so pretty! It took me three thin coats so thet my tips didnt look lighter but it dried surprisingly well, especially for an Orly polish! I usually have problems with the drying time but I used Seche-Vite this time and didnt have any issues. I must say, why dosent eveyone have a cap like this? They are a dream to use!
Well It's back to another work week, and I'm off to bed early tonight!

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms- Emerald Amethyst

If you ever run across these polishes in a sale bin somewhere grab them immediately. They are gems. This one is Emerald Amethyst and its gorgeous. It doesn't really look emerald, more olive/gold and amethyst, but whether the name is suited to the color is beside the point! you can see the color change on the bottle in the first picture. It goes from a dusty purple, to a gold green , and even picks up a little rosy mauve in there. It needs 3 coats like the other prisms, because they are a little on the thin side, but they wear really well.

I think next week I'll show another prism, Purple Diamond, a lilac holo!

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms- Turquoise Opal

This is another one of those polishes that isn't around anymore:-( I'm really glad I've held onto it though, it a beauty. I loved the prism polishes, I still have a few, I was really sad when a red/gold/green duo chrome one (I forget the name) dried up and had to get tossed. Turquoise Opal is hard to describe, it looks just like the wings on a Japanese beetle. It turns from turquoise to emerald green to purple. It goes on pretty thin, I usually use 3 coats when I wear it alone. I really like it 2 coats over a black base, that really brings out the colors. This color is hard to capture, as I moved the nail and it changed, I couldn't get the rainbow spectrum on the nail, but in the different pictures you can see how it changes.

In these two pictures, my middle and pinky fingers are Turquoise Opal alone, and my ring and pointer have a black base coat. I know these are really messy but I'm working on it!

Sinful Colors, Seaweed

This is the other color I got from the Adventure Island Collection along with Open Seas. I passed on the collections namesake, and regretted it, but when I went back they were gone:-(

My first reaction when I saw this color going on was 'putty'. It was not the greatest first impression and with the first coat I was sure I hated it. But, it has grown on me, I wouldn't say love but I guess I like it. The problem is I'm really not used to wearing such neutral (blah) colors. It's one of those things I think is ugly and pretty at the same time. I was also impressed that it did not give me lobster hands.
Its a green based grey-tan. A very office appropriate alternative to nude.

Sinful Colors, Open Seas

If I had to pick a color to wear forever, this would be in my top 5 as I tried to narrow it down!
Sinful released their Adventure Island Collection for Summer 2011. This collection was eerily similar to the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection and Open Seas is a dead on dupe for OPI's Mermaid Tears. That being said, why not get the $1.99 version?
This is a color that could easily be worn into fall, as a matter of fact a few fall lines I've seen have colors like this. Its a dusty aqua color. I love this, its perfection! 2 coats for coverage and shine, decent drying time, and beautiful color. Its fun and still really simple.

OPI, Color to Diner For

Ok, I'll be the first to admit I'm not usually a red fan. I like one red, the cult fave OPI, I'm Not Really a Waitress. That's it, so when I saw this I figured, 'Oh another red shimmer'. Well I like it. It suits my coloring,  there's not to much shimmer, and it its not one of those trashy reds... if you know what i mean? The shimmer is gold and pink which balances out, and keeps it from leaning to warm or cool. Its a rich beautiful color. I still don't know how often I will get the urge to wear red but if I do now at least I have another option.
I swatched this really quickly and when I looked at the pictures I realized what a sloppy mess I made! Sorry for that! The color captured pretty well, but it was more opaque in real life, with no vnl.
